Swedish Coast Guard is Hiring SMC Administrator

The Swedish Coast Guard is a civil government preparedness authority responsible for maritime surveillance and rescue services at sea on behalf of the government and parliament. With our maritime capabilities, the Coast Guard is also an important authority in Sweden's total defense. A crucial part of the maritime surveillance mission is to ensure safety in Sweden's maritime zones. This is achieved through crime prevention, monitoring, and maintaining order. The Coast Guard's rescue service mission includes a wide range of different rescue operations, including environmental rescue operations in the event of accidents or spills and rescue operations in the event of shipwrecks or emergencies.

Description

SMC (Swedish Coast Guard Maritime Clearance) is part of the Coast Guard's Permit and Supervision Section and is the contact point for both the administrative control of advance notifications from vessels and for the Coast Guard's tasks regarding maritime security.

We have close cooperation with the authority's operations center and collaborate with other authorities.

SMC consists of a group of administrators based in Stockholm, Hammarby Sjöstad, where work continues every day of the year.

Job Responsibilities

As an SMC administrator, your tasks will include:

  • Preparing, analyzing, and registering vessel notifications in the KIBS database.
  • Creating documentation for monitoring vessel arrivals and departures and providing statistics to case handlers and the operations center.
  • Working in IT support systems in SMC and the authority's IT systems.
  • Administering documentation for the operations center, intelligence section, and cooperating authorities.
  • Administering documentation for the operations center in matters concerning border crossing permits.
  • Performing other tasks assigned by the head of the Permit and Supervision Section.

Independent work occurs, primarily on weekends.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Completed high school diploma or equivalent education or experience deemed relevant by the Coast Guard.
  • Relevant experience in administrative work.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
  • Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Relevant experience working with various parties, via phone or email.
  • Relevant experience working within a government agency.

You enjoy routine-based work and working in a function where all colleagues essentially have the same tasks. You are meticulous, good at planning and structuring your work, and have strong analytical skills. Furthermore, you are positive, flexible, and engaged. You take initiative and are good at handling situations in a fast-paced environment. You work well both collaboratively and independently.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Conditions

We wish for your application to clearly state how you meet the qualifications for the position.

This is a permanent position starting April 1, 2026, or by agreement, with an initial six-month probationary period.

For employment, Swedish citizenship, a drug test, and a security clearance according to the Security Protection Act are required.

The Coast Guard participates in overseas missions and international operations. Therefore, the position includes an obligation to serve abroad when required for operations.

In the case of permanent employment, there is also an obligation to be placed in a military position.
